Recovered Relic | Embrace of the Reef

Embrace of the Reef imagines the quiet transformation of a vessel that has rested beneath the sea long enough for marine life to establish itself across its surface, yet not so long that its original form has disappeared completely.
Organic coral-like structures spread around the exterior, appearing to cradle rather than consume the vessel. The flowing network of textured ceramic traces the contours of the original object, creating a visual dialogue between the precise geometry of human manufacture and the irregular rhythms of natural growth.
The contrast between the dark interior and the pale blue-green surface evokes the shifting boundary between memory and transformation. Parts of the vessel remain recognisable, while others have become inseparable from the imagined marine ecosystem that now surrounds them.
Rather than portraying decay as loss, Embrace of the Reef celebrates adaptation. It imagines a future where the ocean does not erase human presence but patiently reshapes it into something that belongs once again within the natural world.

Handmade in stoneware and finished with layered glazes, each vessel is individually crafted and cannot be replicated exactly. Variations in surface, texture, and glaze are integral to the making process and celebrate the unique character of each piece.
