Vestige

An early work exploring ideas that would later become central to my practice.
Before the coral structures and fragmented forms of Abyssal Reclamation, I was interested in the quiet transformation of familiar domestic objects. Vestige imagines a discarded ceramic vessel resting beneath the sea, where time gradually softens its identity without completely erasing it.
Fragments of floral decoration remain visible beneath a growing mineral surface, while the body of the vessel appears coated with deposits that suggest decades of slow marine growth. A delicate fracture runs across the form, recalling both the object's former life and the passage of time that has reshaped it.
Looking back, this work marked an important stage in my development. Rather than focusing solely on ceramic form, I became increasingly interested in how objects accumulate history. It was here that the ocean first emerged as both subject and metaphor—a place where loss becomes preservation and deterioration gives rise to unexpected beauty.
